When we hear testosterone we think of men, right? But did you know that women have testosterone as well?
As we age, our testosterone levels begin to drop, just like they do in men. In fact, women tend to have about half the testosterone in their 40's as they did in their 20's.
What this means:
As women reach their 40's they may begin to experience symptoms of low testosterone which can include insomnia, fatigue, weight gain (especially around the abdomen), decreased sex drive or decreased sexual enjoyment, muscle loss, depression/anxiety, dry and thinning skin, and hair loss.
If you are in your 40's or older, and are experiencing these symptoms, correcting low testosterone may help!
Yes, it's true!
Botox has been researched as a possible antidepressant for nearly 15 years with very promising results!
While it is still considered an "off label" use of this incredible medication, it is gaining recognition in the medical world as a valuable tool in maintaining one's mental health.
While we ask that those with diagnosed mental illness continue treatment with a mental health expert, both Dr. Davidson and Dr. Gullotto are trained in supporting one's mental health throughout the various challenges we face in life. (Covid, anyone??)
Interested in a mental health tune up? With simple in-office testing to check the levels of your neurotransmitters, our physicians will be able to make some nutraceutical therapy suggestions. It is understood that going through prolonged periods of stress can change the chemistry in our brains, making us more susceptible to symptoms of depression and anxiety over time. Giving our body the support it needs to repair the damage life stress can cause, in addition to interrupting the "facial feedback mechanism" with Botox, can help us bounce back from life's challenges a little easier and help us support our mental health!
Pretty awesome, huh?
(Facial feedback mechanism: Facial expressions send certain feedback to the brain. Emotions like fear, sadness, or anger can result in the contraction of muscles in the forehead that cause the glabellar frown lines. When we make these expressions we are essentially telling our brain that we are unhappy or upset)
